What's the difference between public and private tracks?

When you upload a track to SoundCloud, you have two options for how you want to share it with other users: Public and Private.

Differences between Public and Private Sharing

Public sharing means that anyone can listen to your track, and it will show up on your SoundCloud profile page. Private sharing is exclusive, giving you control over who has access to your tracks and who doesn't. Private tracks won't show up on your public profile and can't be searched for within SoundCloud.

How to change your privacy settings

To change the sharing settings of your track or playlist, click on the pen icon below the waveform to go into it's edit page. From here, click on the bubble next to the word ‘private' or 'public' and click save.

How to share private or public tracks

You can privately or publicly share a track or playlist through the 'Share' button below the waveform. An overlay will appear where you can copy-paste the track or playlist's URL.  The example below is of a private track:

You can then paste the link into an email or message to send to the recipients of your choice.
