Halloween is approaching and I have been playing with some good old classic horror sounds. These samples/sounds can be fun to throw in a live set or performance. Below is a video walk-through of the Live Pack.
Lately, I have been working on some trap fusion tracks and wanted that deep resonant bass sound. I put together a few custom racks and find myself using these 3 over and over in the studio. I decided to package them all up and share them with you. Below is the video walkthrough.
Download the Free / By Donation pack below.
If you use these instruments in your music, I’d love to hear it. Comment below with any tracks you’ve made. Stoked to see what other musicians are up to.
I love me a good squishy sound. I mean my name is Subaqueous after all. As a sound designer, I am always looking for ways to add dynamic effects and movement in my music. I refined some effects I use a lot in my music and made them a free download.
Here is a video walk-through of the Audio Effect Racks:
I am kinda into water… it’s like my thing. The first album I made as Subaqueous I used water recordings for percussion and snare samples. It was a really cool way for me to play with water on my front lawn and make some beats. Over the years I have traveled all over the world and grabbed field recordings of water for my music. I’ve put together a free / by donation Live Pack and Sample Library of these sounds.
What inspired me to do this is the protest in North Dakota against the pipeline. The Native Americans of that area are protesting an oil pipeline that puts their water source and sacred land at risk. This issue is also bigger than that. It’s about how we treat water and protect it for future generations. I wanted to share my love of nature, water, and help inspire other musicians to join in this very important conversation.
This Live Pack is a gateway for conversation. I hope other music producers download it and create water-inspired music and join in the conversation. As musicians, we are on the forefront of the culture and can help define our society through our music.
Here is a video walkthrough of the Live Pack and Samples.
The live pack is royalty free. Use it however you would like. If you make a track from the template, or sample in your music, I ask that you share something about the power and importance of water. Also use the hashtags #waterislife #waterismusic #nodapl to join in the conversation.
I also wanted to list some organizations that are fighting for our right have clean drinking water. This is a noble fight, and one I am glad to be a part of.https://donate.charitywater.org/donate/home

Samples can be used in any DAW

I really dig a tasty dub beat. When I put down a dub beat and start playing a dub bass line, life is great. Over the last year I have been making Beat Builders to help me in the studio and just finished up the new Deep Dub Beat Builder. These Beat Builders are a collection of loops in a genre. I make a massive amount of Drum Loops and then create two versions. One with everything together, and another where each part is separated. That way you can drag and drop in your production as well as mix and match other drum loops with their parts.
I’ve packaged up 5 of these full drum loops and their associated solo parts for free. That is 27 Drum Loops in total,, which can be combined in hundreds of ways. I’ve also thrown in some free MIDI patterns to help you in creating your own palette of beats. This is a good 1/3 of the full Deep Dub Beat Builder Library. I wanted to not only give you a good taste, but also share the technique. I’ve found this way of organizing to be super useful in the studio. After you grab these samples you can start creating your own, or if you want a jumpstart than buy the full version.
The Deep Dub Beat Builder comes with 159 Samples / loops in it and MIDI. Check out the full version and get that baby goodness going into your production.
Sometimes when I am working on a beat I want to add some glitchyness. I feel it adds character and can take an otherwise normal beat and make it cutting edge. Over the years I’ve made a crap load of glitch loops / samples. I compiled them all together in a new Free/By Donation Sample Library.
The Micro Glitch Library is a quick way to drag one of the many minimal percussion loops into your production. You can then play with interesting new rhythmic ideas you might not ever have thought of. The loops include edgy minimal percussion, clear, resonant hits, and mangled glitchy texture.
Here is a little trailer video I made:
So you got a rocking song written and you’re ready to move it over to the mixing stage. There are many technical steps as well as room for creativity in the mix down process. After years of being a professional mixing engineer and musician I have found a basic guideline that helps me insure a solid mix. Below is a checklist / cheat sheet I made to help visualize the steps needed.
Download a hi-res version for print. I love having a binder of images like this I can reference along the way. If you find the information helpful and want to see more checklist like this, then donate. Thanks!
Here is deeper run-through of the steps and ideas in the Infographic. If you use Ableton Live then check out the Mixdown Toolset. It is packed with tools to help your stereo imaging, advance EQing, and more. (more…)
Percussion and added rhythm can really add a distinct flavor to your music. Over the years I have been cultivating my own collection of Latin percussion in MIDI. This lets me drag and drop it into Live, or any DAW, and create new percussion parts. Super fast and easy.
This is a collection of 85 unique Latin rhythms in MIDI.
- and more
I have also added a Live Set with all the MIDI laid out in clips. I used Abelton Live 9.6. If you are in live try using the Vintage Drum Machine, Percussion Pack I released for free. I’ve been making some awesome sounds with that combo.
This collection is by donation / free. If you want to support the creation of future tools and resources, then consider throwing in a few bucks.
If you want a taste of what these rhythms can sound like, then check out this track Invoking. I used some of these MIDI in creating the percussion elements. It really added a depth and character to the track.
I love using unique instruments in my production. I end up finding a lot of toy instruments and collecting them in Ableton Live. This time I have been working with the Toy Piano. The Schoenhut “My First Piano” is an amazing instrument. The sound it makes is so crisp and clear. I love how it pierces through the mix.
Check out the Toy Piano and download it below:
